6 Days in Stockholm

Our week in Sweden’s capitol was both wonderful and unexpected. We hadn’t planned on any international travel that summer, instead considering a short road trip to some location in the Northeast. The surprising discovery of $400 RT airfares changed that, and the timing was perfect. We arrived during the final week of August, just as the Swedes were returning to work and school from their famously long summer holiday. We were able to truly enjoy the still mild end-of-summer weather with fewer crowds and more open spaces. Add to that affordable Airbnb lodging and wonderful public transport, and this European adventure was no more costly than many local getaways.

An added bonus was our discovery that essentially everyone in this cosmopolitan city speaks English and that many restaurants and shops (not only those catering to tourists) include menus and signage in English, making it especially simple to get around and find what we needed. For a shorter trip. with less time to get our bearings, this was very helpful.
