Day 5: Stockholm’s Fabulous Metro
An Underground Adventure
After several days popping around Stockholm on foot and on the water, we were ready to see Stockholm’s famously clean and beautiful subway system first hand. We did some research (this is one of many resources online), purchased unlimited day passes, and the spent the afternoon on several lines and a dozen stops.
It was wonderful. Most of the stations still display the original rock from which the tunnels were blasted, but with whimsical, original, and thought provoking large-scale art works created in paint, light, and tiles. We really enjoyed this time.
Prior to our underground adventure, we again stored our suitcases in lockers at the Central rail station, in preparation for an overnight stay in the historic town of Sigtuna (see Day 6). It was easy to return to Central, grab a snack in one of the many nice station eateries, and hop on a commuter rail for the final day of our trip.
